The alphorn should always be played with a wooden mouthpiece.
Only then does the instrument achieve its pleasant, “warm” sound; it sounds “rounder” and “softer” than with a metal mouthpiece.
 
However, we offer adapters as an option so that it is possible for all musicians to play our woodwind instruments even with existing metal mouthpieces.
